Come già antipato in un precedente post, sono al Software Summit di Parigi dove ho appena seguito la presentazione di Gadgeteer, un progetto di Microsoft Research. Si tratta di hardware e software facilmente componibile per costruire ogni sorta di gadget, inclusi giochi, in poco tempo. In estate sarà rilasciato il kit: hw in vendita e sw open source. Microsoft Research è interessata a stabilire collaborazioni didattiche con le università.
SEIF 2011 award
Dopo l’IBM Eclipse Innovation Award 2006 e l’IBM Faculty Award 2008, il Collab aggiunge un nuovo successo: il Software Engineering Innovation Foundation (SEIF) Award 2011 per un progetto annuale dal titolo: Augmenting Social Awareness in a Collaborative Development Environment.
As we stated in the email announcing the award decision, out of the many proposals we received this year, yours was one of the best. We look forward to learning more about your project in the coming months.
Questa volta il benefattore è Microsoft Research. Il grant non è tantissimo, l’equivalente di una borsa di studio annuale, ma di questi tempi riuscire a finanziarsi la propria ricerca è diventato veramente difficile. Il 14 aprile ci sarà una premiazione ufficiale al Software Summit di Parigi.

Computer, il magazine dell’IEEE Computer Society, ha una nuova rubrica che pubblicherà brevi articoli sul Social Computing con l’obiettivo di:

Evidence for a Collective Intelligence Factor in the Performance of Human Groups

Abstract
Psychologists have repeatedly shown that a single statistical factor—often called “general intelligence”—emerges from the correlations among people’s performance on a wide variety of cognitive tasks. But no one has systematically examined whether a similar kind of “collective intelligence” exists for groups of people. In two studies with 699 individuals, working in groups of two to five, we find converging evidence of a general collective intelligence factor that explains a group’s performance on a wide variety of tasks. This “c factor” is not strongly correlated with the average or maximum individual intelligence of group members but is correlated with the average social sensitivity of group members, the equality in distribution of conversational turn-taking, and the proportion of females in the group.

A proposito di Jazz lab
Ho scoperto che all’IBM/Rational Innovate 2010 User Conference quest’anno è stato presentato materiale didattico per l’integrazione di tool con Jazz e l’estensione di Jazz. Il primo richiede conoscenza di RTC da utente e quindi si candida a un approfondimento del lab che abbiamo già deciso di mettere in cantiere per il corso di Sistemi per la Collaborazione in Rete. Il tutto è rintracciabile a partire da qui.
Ho avuto modo anche di scoprire che è nata una comunità aperta, Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (in breve OSLC o Open Services) per risolvere il vecchissimo problema dell’interoperabilità dei tool.
Ho trovato anche uno spunto per una tesi di dottorato sull’integrazione di tool basata su Linked Data. Giusto un’intuizione.

The United States may have dominated the first basic and the second social stage of the Web, but the Chinese government is moving quickly to make China the world leader in this next stage, the Internet of Things. A major new public/private partnership in Chongqing aimed explicitely at the Internet of Things is just the latest signal.
IBM EMEA Best Student Recognition
Giuseppe Santoro, laureato del Collab con la tesi “Comunicazione multiprotocollo in eConference: supporto al VoIP” e ora studente della Magistrale, parteciperà dal 7 al 9 Luglio 2010 all’IBM EMEA Best Student Recognition, presso l’ IBM Boeblingen Research and Development Lab in Germania. Gli studenti italiani selezionati sono 8. Il numero totale degli studenti, provenienti da Europa, Medio Oriente e Africa, sarà circa 65.
